Cosmetic teeth surgery

Before starting out I think that it is important to reiterate some of the general benefits of cosmetic dentistry - why are so many people having cosmetic dentistry procedures?

Cosmetic Dentistry aims to create a “positive change to your teeth and your smile.”

Cosmetic dentistry procedures can deliver smile enhancements that simply make you want to smile more and enhance your confidence and self-esteem.

These procedures go from a simple colour correction right through to the most complex dental implant procedures.

Importantly cosmetic dentistry often also improves dental functionality as well as enhancing your appearance.  It can give you the confidence to eat normally and smile afterwards.

The surgical procedures can be relatively quick and simple such as the application of cosmetic dental veneers or bleaching or it can be a process that is more complex and takes more time to achieve the desired result, for example dental implants.

With any procedure you can only start properly with a consultation and agreed treatment plan.

If dental veneers will achieve the desired result the procedure is straight forward and relatively quick.

A Dental Veneer is an extremely thin layer of porcelain or composite resin which is applied to the front of your teeth. It totally changes the look of your teeth and the final result is achieved as soon as the veneers are applied.

Your cosmetic dental surgeon takes an impression and your veneers are then created in the lab.  If you are happy with them, your new veneers can be applied at your next visit.

The treatment time is very quick - three to four weeks from first visit to your complete new smile.

If it is agreed, for example, that a dental implant is the right option the surgical procedure is generally as follows:
  1. The damaged tooth, where necessary, is extracted.
  2. The gum is surgically incised and the bone is drilled for the insertion of the implant.  In some instances a bone graft may also be necessary.
  3. In most cases you are given a temporary cap while the bone in your jaw affixes to the implant (called Osseo integration) and after several months,
  4. The custom cosmetic crown is made.
This procedure requires a number of consultations over a number of months to achieve the desired results.  Done properly a dental implant offers you a lifetime solution.
