What are cosmetic teeth?

Cosmetic teeth are the result of a cosmetic dentistry procedure.

The procedures that provide cosmetic teeth can be from veneers or bleaching  to a full replacement procedure with dental implants.

The common thread is that all procedures that provide cosmetic teeth will make you look great through improving your smile.  With an improved smile your confidence also grows because you won’t be spending all of your time hiding ugly worn, chipped or missing teeth.

An added benefit of a number of cosmetic dentistry solutions is that they also increase the functionality of your teeth and you will no longer be forced to go for the soft option when you are eating out – steaks are on the menu again and that crisp new season apple is waiting for you.

Let’s look at three of the most common cosmetic teeth options.

1. Dental veneers

Dental veneers offer a very quick and effective solution for discoloured and chipped teeth.

After an initial consultation we establish a treatment plan and take impressions of your existing teeth from which we build your veneers which will style your new smile.

Your veneers are then created in the dental laboratory.  If you are happy with your proposed new look, your new veneers can be applied over your existing teeth at your next visit.  It is as simple as that.

2. Dental crowns

Dental crowns are used by cosmetic dentists to treat conditions such as:
  • A broken tooth
  • A chipped tooth
  • A tooth with a large cavity
Dental crowns are the most tried and tested cosmetic dentistry option, they enhance appearance and increase functionality.

Crowns work because:
  • They are placed over and protect the whole tooth and
  • Therefore distribute the pressure of biting over the whole tooth
  • Which prevents further fracturing of the tooth.
3. Dental implants

Dental implants, depending on the need, can be used for a single tooth or multiple teeth.

A dental implant generally has three facets
  • The implant itself which is inserted into the bone – the bit that becomes part of your jaw or the root.
  • The abutment which is the connecting joint between the internal implant and
  • The external overlying crown or bridge – the part you can see.
Dental implants are strong and long-lasting because of the process known as osseointergration which is essentially the process of the implant fusing into the jaw bone and then becoming part of the jaw structure.

The other great advantage of a dental implant is that they don’t rely on other teeth for support.
